This is a website for school aged children who are struggling with balancing being a child and a caregiver for a parent with mental illness. My ideas for the site is that it would be a good side piece for a support group that met in person one or more times a week and then they could use the site on the off days.
There is a gap in the conversation of what health care providers can do to assist families struggling with mental illness. In all of the interviews that I researched it was always “if health care could do this instead of that” or “if health care could provide this”, and many different variations of things like that. From what I have discovered I think that healthcare professionals should try and provide a support group for families with an adult with mental illness that provided duel support for the child and parent so that they can work on their relationship together.
