I honestly loved doing the research for my project specifically, because our topic has changed so much over time and culture. Love and intimacy displayed themselves totally different. It was also eye-opening to see that even ancient texts touched on subjects that are still very prevalent today such as gender stereotypes, social norms, and glass ceilings. For example, the reading “Laughing Warrior Girl,” explains that the main character was not only a woman but “also a man.” This was because the girl did not wish to “behave correctly,” and instead wanted to help the men fight the enemies. After they let her, she became a female fighting icon and broke the “glass ceiling” regarding women being able to protect and serve as
well.
Additionally, the text also touched on gender normalities and stereotypes regarding behavior. People of society did not believe she behaved well because women were supposed to be obedient, subservient, and quiet. While some women in certain cultures held power, they were still supposed to be emotionally “put together” and display level-headed thinking. The subtle
integration of this topic into the piece caught my attention. I didn’t believe that behavioral gendered stereotypes were something that ancient cultures would recognize, but they did. This made me all the more excited to teach our class about the reading and what we personally interpreted from it. I also was eager to hear what the class thought about it, too.

Abstract:
Walt Disney World was originally created and developed to share the wonderful magic of Disney. Walt Disney World resides in Orlando, Florida and features multiple theme parks. Each park tells a different story, yet all attract millions of people from all over the nation and globe. The upbringing, history and construction of Walt Disney World is fascinating and showcases how the most magical place in the world came to be.

This is a credible source because I used Google Scholar to acquire it and it is reviewed and checked by multiple references, and will use it throughout the course of my project.

- This is a fantastic source that contains a sufficient amount of information. I believe that this will be my most valuable source of information because it contains anything and everything to know about Disney, and more importantly, Walt Disney World. Although this book was created in 2010, I believe that it contains valuable information that is still in effect today.I was able to find this resource by using Google Scholar and sorting through multiple sources and will use it in my final slides of my map.

Abstract:
King Henry VIII has become one of the most infamous monarchs in the world. Known for claiming himself the head of the Church and having six wives. Henry had one of the most unique experiences as King. The King had many wives and children from places all across Europe who were all in his life at certain times. Most however didn’t outlive the King. This Story Map shows those important individuals from Henry’s life where they were born, and what they were known for.

This book is about henry VIII and his wives. It provides a deeper understanding of different people in Henry’s life as well as his life growing up and as he passed away. The author’s thesis is just to provide you with information about all the different people that entered Henry VIII’s life. The book was published in 1973 however it provides information on each of the six wives in Henry’s life and how they shaped him. It also tells me when he was born. This is going to help give my story map a better flow.

The book is about the wives of King Henry VIII. The author provides lots of information on each of the six wives in King Henry’s life. As well as a more in-depth story of their own lives and how they ended up with Henry. The book is definitely for people interested in the Tudor Dynasty. It also tells me where all of his wives were born. The book was published in 1993 and I found it in the library. This book will help me write better summaries of each of the wives.

The source was made in 2003 and I found it by typing in Elizabeth the I of England Reign on ProQuest. This source will better my StoryMap in relation to the slide on Elizabeth. Where I will be able to provide a more descriptive explanation of her rule in a paragraph.

My Jacket
My main character jacket,
My armor in time of war,

Clad in pins from her adventures.
Pins rom a bookstore in New York City
Flying on a plane for the first time
To a strange, scary city
Only seen in my movies.
Pins from Denmark, from friends an ocean away
A pin of a little mermaid perched on a rock.
I can see her now with rusted copper skin.
I think of my mom who I watched the mermaid with….
Then the pins from comic con
I can still see her now,
Aisles of cosplayers and artists, with me in awe
All the intricately made costumes and the trinkets they sold.
One of those places I feel I most belong.
Finally, the pins from nowhere,
Just the ones I found at the Hot Topic,
The ones that let the world know who I am,
The ones that let me know who I am,
The ones that remind me of the simple, beautiful things in life,
As well as the strange.
These pins on this jacket,
Putting on display who I am,
Who I want to be.
It connects me to me.

Dyslexia and Growing Up
After reflecting on my childhood, which was largely spent in a remedial program, I decided I wanted to make a mixed media piece detailing my experience and the conclusion I came to in coping with my visual dyslexia. I chose to use an eye as a self-representation for a few reasons. Firstly, my visual dyslexia is a result of distortions of my eye and parts of my brain
that contribute to my visual function. Secondly, an eye represents me as an artist because I can use my eyes to transcribe the world around me and put it on paper. I am not defined by my dyslexia but it is a part of my human experience. I also chose to use the star as a symbol in my drawing as a nod to reward systems offered by teachers in school, as well as a symbol of potential to learn, something I have despite my dyslexia. I placed scraps of paper with b’s, d’s, p’s, and q’s in various positions as a nod to my memoir, where I mentioned the letters I struggled the most with growing up. The process of making this piece started by gluing collaged notebook paper onto my bristol board then drawing on top with micron, pen, and marker.
