I have discovered many things about myself by creating this video. No paper can express the things experienced from skating the whole day at UNCA with really good friends. I had a relative idea of the kind of shots I wanted to do but mostly everything came naturally. At first, I was conflicted about adding consecutive mistakes. I thought more about what it means to be a skater and I realized that the failures conceptualize the skater in-group more than the successes. The next part of the video was the music. Freddie Scott just came naturally to me because I just felt the love that I had for skating. “Giving You My Heart” and “Let It Be Me” fit so well. The tone of that day was giving everything to skating and trying to best capture the beauty of it. From the bails to cruising, this product represents my experience as a skater. I am thankful that this assignment allowed for creative expression and gave me a chance to show how I truly feel about my in-group. I hope that this video allows the reader to feel the same way I do about skating.
